What is the GREF in the CG-5 used for?

The GREF in the setup screen of the CG-5 is used only when you have a known gravity field and you want to see only the uG changes instead of a full reading. The GREF subtracts the value you place there from the actual reading that you have.

When should I use a Software reset?

The Software Reset, by pressing ON/OFF and F5 at the same time, is used if you have diagonal black lines, or if the screen has stuck/frozen.

When should I do my Drift calibration?

The drift calibration should be done before each survey to have the minimum amount of uncorrected, or residual drift in your survey data.

 What is a Cold Boot?

A cold boot is an invasive reset of the complete hardware of the CG-5. It is performed by having the unit off, pressing and holding SETUP, and then pressing the ON/OFF key. This should only be used after the Software Reset above has not worked to clear your problem. Please remember that the COLD Boot will completely wipe out all of your survey data and settings.

 What is the integrator voltage?

The integrator voltage , seen in 4.0 and above software , is the voltage that the quartz sensor is using to keep the mass of the sensor in the middle. This voltage can be varied from place to place on the planet, but should never be 5V or 0V.

 My SCUTIL does not recognize my CG-5.

The SCUTIL is a driver based download program but it is not plug_and_play compatible. The driver of the SCUTIL must be designated for a specific USB port.
The driver will not work on multiple USB ports. The first thing to try is to plug the USB adapter cable into the correct USB port , plug the other end into the CG-5, and then turn on the CG-5 itself. The connection should be recognised by the Windows as a USB device. If this does not happen , please contact Customer Service for more information on troubleshooting the SCUTIL driver program.

Why should I upgrade to the latest revision of software?

 The latest revision of software is always an important thing to have as it will have the most up to date software upgrades and fixes .

 What is the maximum amount of drift that is allowable in a CG-5?

The maximum allowable drift in a CG-5 is a fluid question. There is no complete right or wrong answer. If a meter is new, and is High Temperature, the drift could be as high as 3 mG per day before stabilizing and reducing over time. In a normal CG-5 the drift could be as high as 1.8 mG per day, and the meter will stabilize and decrease over time. The problem arises, if the drift increases each time that the drift calibration is done. If the drift is not stable in 2 consecutive calibrations, or does not decrease, then contact Customer Service for more concise information.

 What is the Scintrex RS 232 Logger software?

The Scintrex RS-232 Data logger software, is a serial dump program that can be used with the CG-5 to dump to a txt file directly.

 My batteries are not recognised by the CG-5. What do I do?

The batteries of the CG-5 are considered Smart in so much as they report their charge to the CG-5. If the charge is so low that it is not being reported, the CG-5 will not recognise them. Please recondition them as per the trouble shooting guide, or the manual. Once this is done, the CG-5 will recognise them once more.

Why does the ENVI/ENVIPRO not turn on?
 
Make sure that the battery polarity is correct on the battery wire connectors to the console and make sure that the battery is charged.
Please check the fuse of the console in the battery compartment on the back of the ENVI/ENVIPRO with an ohm meter. It should be a few ohms. Replace if needed.
 
Why does the ENVI/ENVIPRO turns off when the MEASURE key is pressed?
 
There is a short in the sensor or sensor cable. Replace the cable or sensor.
Low battery; not enough current available for the injection sequence.
 
 
Why is there nothing on the screen but the keys beep which pressed?
 
The LCD needs adjustment. Please press the AUX/LCD key and adjust using the +/- on the keypad.
If the temperature is below -15C then activate the display heater by pressing the SETUP key and then changing the HEATER to yes.
 
 
Why is the noise higher then it should be?
 
Check the connections of the sensor to make sure that they are not reversed, the ground lead must be near the fill plug of the sensor.
The sensor is low in Hexane. Refill the sensor to a total weight (sensor and Hexane) of 960-980 grams.
Make sure that the sensor orientation is correct with the sensor N pointed to magnetic North.
You may be in a noisy environment, try a remote location free from power lines and buildings
The sensor cable is broken, replace the cable.
 
 
How do I dump my data?
 
The data dumping can be accomplished by using the Scintrex Data Logger software available on our website or by using HyperTerminal in WINXP and lower operating systems. The Baud rates and all corresponding stop bits etc, must match for the data capture to work properly.
 
Why the GPS in my ENVIPRO is not working?
 
You must activate the GPS in the ENVIPRO by pressing the INFO key and setting the GPS to yes. After this, please choose the ALT/LONG or the UTM mode of the GPS. This will activate the GPS and the number of satellites will appear. Please make sure that you have more then 7 satellites for the accuracy to improve; the more satellites, the better the accuracy.
Check the connection of the GPS to the ENVIPRO console.
In some instances the canopy in the survey area may block the signal and the GPS will not lock.
 

For SARIS Resistivity Meter

I have the error “ M-N OPEN” on my SARIS screen. What does it mean?

  The error of M/N open is indicating that the electrical path of the electrodes is not complete. If you are using 4 wires, please make sure that the wires are connected to the correct electrodes in the correct sequence. If this is correct, cold boot the system, re-enter your survey data and try once more. If the situation does not improve please contact Customer Service.
If you are using the cable system, please make sure that the takeouts of the cable are correctly attached to the electrodes and are in the proper order. If this is correct, cold boot the system, re-enter your survey data and try once more. If the situation does not improve please contact Customer Service.
            
Why the SARIS does not recognise my cables; “ No cables detected”?
 
The error of “cables are not detected” can be caused by several things.
The first thing to do is to cold boot the system and renter your survey data. Once this is done reinitialize the cable detection as per the manual on page 2-7.
If you still have the error, disassemble the middle module of the SARIS from the main SARIS console. (between the battery and the top console).
Loosen and remove the 4 screws on the module top and remove the top plate to access the two fuses in the module. Check both fuses for continuity by using an ohm meter. They should be a few ohms. Replace if needed.
  
 
Please remove the battery module from the console and check the fuse. This fuse is located in the top of the battery module and can be removed with a flat head screw driver. Check the fuse with an ohm meter and replace if need be.
If you have a cable interface module, make sure that the ribbon cable to the SARIS main console is connected securely.
  
 
The contrast of the screen must be adjusted. Press the ENTER key, then CONTRAST, and then use the arrows to adjust or press F2.
  
 
Turn the SARIS console off, insert the USB cable to the computer and then plug it into the SARIS console. Turn the SARIS on and it should be recognised by the WINDOWS OS as a USB device. Proceed with the data dump as required.
If the WINDOWS does not recognise the SARIS console as a USB device, reinstall the SCUTIL as per page C-2 of the manual. Please mark on the computer the USB port used as the SCUTIL is not plug_and_play compatible and can be installed on one USB port only.
